Background and PhilosophyNow in its twelfth year, Cybercamps Academy is the nation’s largest summer technology program for kids ages 10–17, preparing them for today’s technology-driven global marketplace. In a safe and fun environment, the Academy offers cutting-edge courses in game design and modding, computer programming, 3-D animation, robotics, and Web design. By teaching kids to work in teams, communicate effectively, and think critically, Cybercamps Academy instills the essential twenty-first-century skills that ignite their potential and help them succeed in school and in future endeavors.
Program OfferingsCybercamps Academy’s research-proven methodology uses individual projects and Web-based tutorials that empower kids to independently problem solve and explore the many facets of technology. An independent doctoral study showed that Cybercamps Academy’s curriculum results in immediate improvement in standardized testing. Each of the more than fifty university locations uses the meticulously crafted courseware. Its 5:1 student-staff ratio is among the best in the business. While teaching kids how to program, create, and design, Cybercamps Academy takes it a step further by exposing them to the history of the technology they are working with, giving a greater understanding and basis for further learning. Teachers present real-world applications of what students are learning and bring in top professionals to inspire them through career exploration. Cybercamps Academy places importance on a healthy balance. No matter how much students may love computers, Cybercamps Academy believes it is essential to be out in the fresh air and get the blood flowing, so it emphasizes the proper balance between computer lab time, team-building games, and fun physical activities. Throughout the week, Cybercamps Academy communicates with parents about the projects their children are working on and what they have achieved along the way. There are also photos from the week, and parents can view their child’s personal portfolio where they post their projects as the days go by.
Extra Opportunities and ActivitiesIn addition to its courses and special interest projects, Cybercamps Academy offers a variety of activities—both indoor and outdoor—that its participants love, including Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee, Rock Band®, board games, and videos. Cybercamps Academy also offers a number of traditions, including Wild Water Wednesdays, Friday Awards Ceremony, Robot Rivalries, Game Testing, Movie Mania, and Campus Tours.
StaffThe Cybercamps Academy teaching staff consists of parents, educators, technology professionals, and experts—adults who provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps children have a great summer. They are cool people that youth feel comfortable around, and they are passionate about helping kids experience technology in a safe and productive way. Few computer camps can match the level of expertise and dedication at Cybercamps Academy. On average, more than 80 percent of the academy directors return each year to lead the Cybercamps Academy programs. This is achieved by offering a program that these adults really believe in.
Medical CareCybercamps Academy maintains more than 300 standards of health and safety in all camp locations. These standards cover various aspects of a camp’s operations in ten specific areas, including health care (staff and facility requirements, medication management, required health information, and recordkeeping) and staffing (staff qualifications, training, ratios, supervision, and behavior management guidelines). In addition, Cybercamps Academy standards go beyond these basic requirements to include a comprehensive staff training program for all camp staff members, from the camp director through counselors, covering emergency management plans, health care, and overall program management. Cybercamps Academy staff members are trained in first aid and CPR, and each staff member has been through its rigorous screening system.
CostsCybercamps Academy offers day camps, extended day camps, and residential camps. Weekly tuition rates vary by location. Day camp ranges from $879 to $959, with variations to personalize each camper’s program. For specific tuition and fees, students should call 888-904-2267 (toll-free) or visit the Cybercamps Academy Web site (http://www.cybercamps.com).
