Northwestern University - Communication Systems Strategy and Management Program
This two-year master's degree is uniquely designed for the working professional. It addresses the ever-increasing demands placed on managers who are responsible for the investment, productivity, and performance of information/communication technologies and systems in business--including those responsible for the development of products and services in both the old economy and the new Internet economy. The program is interdisciplinary, and it provides the advanced skills and expertise to help managers effectively bridge the "understanding gap" that occurs between a company's technical support staff and its non-technical executive decision-makers. The program is a complete, fourteen-course curriculum. It focuses on business and management expertise and is often described by graduates as incorporating the essential elements of an M.B.A. Yet, the curriculum incorporates an effective foundation in technology and systems principles. Overall, the program is a progression in the development of related, advanced skills. In the first year, course topics include science and technology of information systems, the management and general application of communication and technology systems, and technological innovation. The second year extends this interdisciplinary framework into course topics from market assessment/strategy, business finance, legal/political issues and process, and network management. Given that the program emphasizes the larger managerial perspective, a wide variety of undergraduate degrees are accepted; having an engineering degree or technical background is not required.

Saint Louis University - School of Nursing
Saint Louis University School of Nursing is a leader in nursing distance education. It was the first nursing school in the US to offer complete master's degree programs in nursing online through the World Wide Web. Currently, MSN, MSN (research), and post-master's certificate programs are available online for the acute care, adult, family, gerontological, pediatric, and psychiatric nurse practitioner tracks and for the adult, gerontological, perinatal, and psychiatric clinical nurse specialist tracks. Faculty members work with students to help select clinical sites and preceptors that are compatible with the students' and the program's objectives. To participate, students must be comfortable using PC hardware and software and should have an e-mail account and be proficient in accessing the World Wide Web. Students enrolled in the online programs have access to the University's main and health sciences libraries and resources via the Internet. Seattle Central Community College - Distance Learning Program
Since its founding in 1967, Seattle Central Community College has developed into a school with a national reputation for innovative educational programs. Located in Seattle, Washington, Seattle Central is one of the largest colleges in the state, with an enrollment of 10,000 students. The College is unique among the state's community colleges for its ethnic and cultural diversity. Each year, more students from Seattle Central go on to 4-year institutions than from any other community college in the state. If the ultimate goal is a 4-year degree, the Associate of Arts (AA) degree via distance learning provides freshman- and sophomore-level classes recognized by most universities. For those not sure about college, distance learning may help them decide. Students can enroll via distance learning in an individual course that interests them or helps improve their knowledge and skills and earn credit toward an AA degree, or they can earn a certificate in a specific technical area. There are several reasons why distance learning may work for students, including those with a work or home schedule conflict, disability or homebound situation, lifestyle preferences, traffic gridlock, or a residence too far from a college. It can also be a good match with the student's learning style or simply be more convenient. Seattle Central's distance learning program offers courses in a variety of formats, including correspondence courses, telecourses, videocassette courses, and online courses. For more information, students should contact the Distance Learning Program at 800-510-1724 (toll-free) or by e-mail (dislrn@sccd.ctc.edu) or visit the home page (http://seattlecentral.edu/distance).

Southern New Hampshire University - Distance Education Program

SNHU offers certificate and degree programs in business, community economic development, culinary arts, education, hospitality, and liberal arts, with degrees at the associate level through the doctoral level. SNHU's Distance Education (DE) program offers undergraduate and graduate certificate and degree programs and is one of the largest and fastest-growing programs in New England. SNHU is a recognized leader in fully online asynchronous learning and Web-based education. Total distance education enrollments exceeded 10,000 for the 2003-04 academic year. DE classes normally are limited to 18 students, providing a significant measure of faculty-student interaction. Blackboard Learning System is the learning management software for all SNHU online courses. The University offers six 8-week undergraduate and four 12-week graduate terms each year. The undergraduate residency requirement, which may be satisfied by taking Distance education courses, is 30 semester hours (ten classes) through SNHU, including 12 credit hours in the area of study for the bachelor's or 9 credit hours in the area of study for the associate degree, through SNHU, to graduate. DE students are not required to come to campus. The final 24 semester hours must be taken through SNHU. The graduate program typically limits transfer credit to 6 semester hours. SNHU is regionally and nationally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, the New England Postsecondary Education Commission, the New Hampshire State Department of Education for Teacher Certification, the American Culinary Federation Education Institute, and the North American Society for Sport Management.

Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies
Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Spertus currently offers 4 degree programs on a distance learning basis: the Master of Science in Jewish Studies (MSJS), the Master of Science in Jewish Education (MSJE), the Doctor of Jewish Studies (DJS), and the Doctor of Science in Jewish Studies (DSJS). The MSJS and the MSJE are designed for students with an accredited undergraduate degree and a desire to enrich their Jewish education or acquire a professional credential in Jewish education or Jewish communal service. The MSJS and MSJE programs are identical, except that students in the MSJE must choose a concentration area in Jewish education. Courses are delivered in a variety of ways, including distance learning packages, intensive seminars, and independent study. The programs progress at the learner's individual rate. Distance learners are encouraged to spend a minimum of 6 days per year at Spertus's Chicago campus for intensive course work. Forty-eight quarter hours are required for the degrees. Tuition is currently $225 per quarter hour. Scholarships, in the form of partial tuition remission, are available. The DJS is designed for in-service Jewish clergy, educators, and communal service workers who are interested in and committed to building upon and enhancing previously acquired Judaica knowledge and professional skills and who desire to make a cutting-edge contribution to their respective fields. Admission to the DJS program is highly selective. Eighteen courses are required for the degree: 7 reading courses, 7 intensive seminars, and 4 courses toward the completion of a Project Demonstrating Excellence. The DSJS program has been designed primarily for students who already hold a master's degree in Jewish studies and who want to explore how the wisdom of the Jewish past--as embodied in its sacred and significant texts and in the diverse historical experiences of the Jewish people--can be utilized to address the perplexities and problems of Jewish life in the present--both communal and individual. The DSJS program requires 18 courses, including 7 core courses; 3 text courses; 5 courses on issues, problems, methodologies, and major intellectual or historical figures in Jewish history; and 3 research and writing courses related to a final project. (In some cases, additional prerequisite courses may also be required.) Tuition for both the DJS and DSJS programs is currently $250 per quarter hour. Syracuse University - Martin J. Whitman School of Management
Founded in 1977, the Independent Study MBA (iMBA) Program at Syracuse University is the nation's longest-running AACSB International-accredited distance learning MBA program. The 1-week residency at the beginning of each trimester is the hallmark of this program. During the week on campus, or at one of the international sites, students are taught by the same faculty members who have taught in the full-time and part-time evening MBA program at Syracuse. The iMBA curriculum is identical to the full-time MBA program. The week is composed of intensive classes and informal time with faculty members and other students. The beginning of each course is the class time during the residency week. For new students the first day consists of an orientation program and the registration process, followed by a reception with faculty members and returning students. For continuing students the first day consists of exams for the classes taken in the last trimester, followed by the reception. Then all students take intensive classes in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management building over the next 5 days. Classes are small, typically 10-30 students per course. At the conclusion of the residency week, students leave Syracuse with an understanding of the requirements for completion of their courses. They communicate extensively between residencies with their professors and classmates via e-mail. The course ends with the exam, if required, at the following residency. Following the model, students typically take 2 courses each trimester per year, completing 18 credits toward the MBA each year. The MBA can be completed in as little as 2 years or as many as 7; 3 years is the average. Admission is conducted on a rolling basis year-round. New students who are accepted may begin at any of the residencies, which occur annually in January, May, and August. Basic requirements for admission consideration are a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, TOEFL score for international applicants, and the completed application, including 1 recommendation letter. The GMAT is required for international applicants and admission is competitive. An online application is available at http://www.The PrincetonReview.com. The Admissions Office can be reached at 315-443-9214; e-mail: imba@som.syr.edu; Web site: http://www.som.syr.edu/imba.

Western Wyoming Community College - Extended Education
Western Wyoming Community College is located on the high desert plains of southwestern Wyoming and has a service area of 25,000 square miles. Because of the distance and small populations in some of the local communities, it was essential for the College to enter the distance learning field. Western's goal is to provide high-quality instruction to students who might not otherwise be able to continue their education. The College offers videotaped courses, compressed video instruction, and Internet courses that are part of an associate degree program. Standards are the same as they are for traditional instruction, and students are able to complete degree requirements from their home. Western is interested in drawing students from around the country and the world to their classes because they believe it enriches the learning experience for all concerned. Some Wyoming people rarely venture outside the state, and they welcome the chance to interact with students from other cultures and backgrounds. Because Western is a state-supported institution, tuition and fees are very low, so students on a tight budget find the College to be very attractive. On average, 77% of students receive some type of financial assistance to attend the College. Western offers both need- and academic-based aid. Western is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, so transfer of courses taken is not a problem. Students who plan carefully are able to complete the first 2 years of their bachelor's degree and transfer with junior status. Occupational students find that they are well prepared for jobs in their field. Students should visit the Web site at http://www.wwcc.cc.wy.us.
